SI.COM: Allan Muir recently reported on the IIHF denying Jiri Hudler's transfer card at the request of the NHL and USA Hockey. Hudler had signed a two-year contract with Moscow Dynamo but filed for arbitration with the Red Wings and was awarded a two-year contract worth $2.875 million per season. If Hudler is unable to play in the KHL he could return to the Red Wings but they now lack the cap space to take on his new contract and would have to dump salary. Muir suggested the only real option for GM Ken Holland would be to shop Tomas Holmstrom and his $2.25 million salary.
Commish Notes:
Now THAT is interesting! I dont think anyone expected that Hudler would be playing in the NHL next season. Holland has always been great at managing his cap but this little curve ball could cost the Wings a bunch of their depth.
NEWSDAY: Steve Zipay reported last week former Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Dennis Seidenberg told a German newspaper he's had talks with the NY Rangers and Florida Panthers. Seidenberg said he's seeking a three-year contract but teams are reluctant to offer that due to concerns over a lower cap ceiling after this season.
Commish Notes:
Most team that can use him are pretty much capped out and with concern over next years cap, i doubt he'll get a 3 year deal.
OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports the San Jose Sharks, NY Rangers, LA Kings, New Jersey Devils and Edmonton Oilers are the five teams which could be potential destinations for Dany Heatley. Garrioch claims the Sharks remain the top contenders although they might make an offer sheet for Boston's Phil Kessel. He claims the Senators might be willing to take Patrick Marleau if they could also get draft picks but the player they really covet is Joe Thornton. The Rangers are where Heatley really wants to go but they aren't willing to part with Marc Staal and Brandon Dubinsky and would be loath to part with captain Chris Drury. Garrioch notes they have over $6 million in cap space so they wouldn't need to part with much salary. The Kings apparently mulled parting with Jack Johnson and Alex Frolov but pulled out over Heatley's character. The Devils have the cap space but aren't on Heatley's wish list although he might change his mind since they're in the New York area. Garrioch admits the Oilers, whom Heatley refused to accept a trade to, are a long shot but believes they'd still take him in a minute.
Commish Notes:
Kings= Don't want him
Devils= How would Heatley fit into their defense first style of play?
Rangers= $6mil in cap space?!?!?!?!...where did that number come from?
Oilers= Didn't they pull out already?
Sharks= It's possible still, but they wont trade Thornton and Marleau wont waive his NTC...so what else do they have to offer that the Sens would want?
OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports five or six teams are believed interested in former Senator Mike Comrie and his agent is confident his client will be under contract within the next two weeks. Senators GM Bryan Murray would like to re-sign Comrie but unless he can move Dany Heatley lacks the cap space to do so.
Commish Notes:
A cheap 2nd line centre, I really don't know why he hasnt been signed already.
