STLTODAY.COM: Jeremy Rutherford reports the Blues have set their sights on acquiring a backup goalie via trade or free agency, suggesting Vancouver's Jason Labarbera, Detroit's Ty Conklin or San Jose's Brian Boucher better fit the club's intentions. Team president John Davidson said it would depend on who's available and their asking price, ruling out pursuing an expensive netminder.
Commish's Note:
Only three teams are in the market for a starting goaltender and the Blues aren't one of them. Mason earned the right to start next season and will get that chance. Than again, he earned that right in Nashville only to get pushed out by Dan Ellis.
KUKLA'S KORNER: cited recent "Twitters" from USA Today's Kevin Allen suggesting Marian Hossa won't be re-signed if he's unwilling to accept a "Franzen-like" deal, while the Wings made an offer to Mikael Samuelsson that didn't get done.
Commish's Note:
Even though Twitter isn't exactly the greatest source of info on the NHL, I agree its looking less and less likely Hossa will be a Wing, and the Wings will be better off for it.
CHICAGONOW.COM: Mark Kiley reports ESPN.com is suggesting the Blackhawks ship expensive blueliner Brian Campbell to the NY Rangers in exchange for Michal Rozsival to address the club's penalty killing problems. Kiley dismisses Rozsival as a "poor man's Campbell" and believes the latter will be returning with the Blackhawks next season.
Commish's Note:
It's true...and all the Leafs have to do is trade Stajan for Crosby and Ponikarovsky for Ovechkin and the team is set! I love it when reporters and fans play GM like its nothing.
