CHICAGONOW.COM: Mike Kiley cites a rumor from The Fourth Period suggesting the Blackhawks reportedly could announce the re-signing of winger Martin Havlat to a long-term contract - at less than market value of between $4.5-$5 million per season - as early as next week. Kiley attempted to reach Havlat and his agent but to date neither have responded.
Commish's Note: I put Havlat in the same category as Gaborik as you're probably not going to get full value, no matter what his contract is. I think the Hawks would be wise to let Havlat and Khabibulin walk and use there 12.5mil of cap space else where (maybe to bolster their blueline).

If they can get Havlat at 4.5-5m they have to sign him. At 28 yrs old a 5 yr contract isn't a horrible thing for both sides. It was often said in the playoffs that this was their best defensive line as well as one of the best offensive lines.
Injury prone but even if he's injured that clears up that 4.5-5m in salary.
Sign him and hope that 81 reg season games played is a sign of things to come, if it's not use the cap room for LTIR to help out at the trade deadline.

As of last wesk Havlat wanted 8-10 years from Chicago or he would walk....then I read that if he does leave Chicago the 2 biggest names looking at him are Pittsburg to play with Crosby and Ottawa, but I have no idea how they could afford him.

they'll be able to afford him when Heatley gets traded.

Where does Heatley want to go? Doesn't he have a NMC or NTC or something? I've heard the rumors but no real idea of what his list of teams he woudl go to are. Keeping in mind that his list of teams would be narrowed by teams being able to add a 7.5m cap hit.
Gotta think Edmonton will make a huge push. One of Vishnovsky or Souray and the 10th overall and Cogliano (or something similar) would have to get the ball rolling i would think.
I'm not a huge Heatley fan lately but he may finally be the right guy that can get the most out of Hemsky.

WOW....Edmonton! That would suck to be Heatley! I was actually thinking that I would like to see the Flames swap shitty contracts with Ottawa.
Straight up - Phanuef for Heatley.
Heatley is a Calgary boy and Phanuef sucks so it would be perfect. Plus Phanuef would get to play in the weaker Conference where he might actually not be injured all the time! I used to be stoked to have Phanuef here and now I can't wait to see him go!

It would not surprise me at all if the Kings make a push for him if Vinny doenst work out.....Jack Johnson could be what the Sens are looking for and might be willing to pony up the 5+mil he wants. And heatley might want to go to a non-hockey market to fly under the radar.
In fact, i'm calling it now!
Heatley to the Kings for Johnson and their 1st round pick!

I think phanuef/heatley would be very good for ottawa. I agree that in the weaker conference i think phaneuf could really dominate.
With the same thought in mind, does heatley have a harder time being that 50/50 guy in the tougher conference?

Not playing in his home town with Iggy...I think he would have a career year if that were to happen!

Iggy is more of a setup man for the most part now, I think he has forgotten how good of a scorer he is. I know it's a pipe dream anyways.
