PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS/PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER: both report the possible signing of Ray Emery by the Flyers could mean the end of Martin Biron's tenure with the club. It's believed Biron could be seeking a longer term deal than the Flyers are willing to give.
Commish's Note:
I think this is the bets move for the Flyers. Emery has proven he can be a good goalie when focused and he hasn't done anything worse that what Sean Avery pulls off on a daily basis. I also think he'll be a lighter cap hit than Biron, which Philly definitely needs. Biron will land on his feet is the Flyers don't take him back. The Oilers, Avs and Kings all need goalies and he'll likely be the cheapest option on the open market.
MERCURYNEWS.COM: David Pollak reports that Sharks GM Doug Wilson denied a report from the Toronto Sun claiming Patrick Marleau wouldn't be traded. Wilson said the only players who won't be traded are Joe Thornton and Dan Boyle and he's not ready yet to put other limits on what could happen with his roster building in the off-season.
Commish's Note:
I think Marleau has a NTC so he ultimately can decide his fate. You cant really blame Wilson for saying anyone if fair game minus he franchise centre and one of the top 5 dmen in the league.
FOXSPORTS.COM: Al Strachan reports the widely held theory is the NY Islanders could draft defenseman Victor Hedman, leaving the Lightning to select center John Tavares who would make a fine one-two punch with Steve Stamkos, so the Bolts would then deal Vincent Lecavalier to the LA Kings for defenseman Jack Johnson.
Commish's Note:
It's obvious that the Lightning will be getting NYI's leftovers at the draft. If they do indeed end up with Taveres Lawton would be an idiot not to make that deal if it is indeed on the table. I'm sure a package would also include the Kings 1st round pick (5th overall) which means a core of Stamkos, Taveres, Johnson and a Schenn like player, which would rival what the Pens and Hawks had. Not to mention getting Vinny's contract off the books.
