Pre Signing Day 1 Signings:
General Manager Swan wasted no time extending Dominic Hasek stay in Oakland/Calfornia. [$4.5M/3years (10mil SB)] The contract also has a NTC that expires at the beginning of the 1998 season.
Whalers GM, Mario Fournier, also wasted little time signing two key players tonight. Cliff Ronning will be assisting on many more goals for the Whalers, he signed a 4 year contract that [$2.8M/4years (3M SB)] promises mostly 2nd line minutes.
The Whalers also signed Kevin Stevens to a [$3.8M/4years (3M SB)] deal. The scoring winger admitted money was a factor, but he was also promised top line minutes. The whalers are only a peice or two away from competing in this league.
New York Americans are jumping on the pre-signing band wagon, signing goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck to a [$2.75M/4years (1.5M SB)] deal. which should make John the starter for many years. The team also signed stay-at-home defensman Rob Zetter to a cap friendly deal. The defensman will received [$750K/4years]. Rob feels comfortable in the role the Americans ask of him.

Pre Signing Day 2 Signings:
Andy Bradley, probably the leagues most hated GM, has signed two key players to contract extentions today. Center Jim Dowd has signed a [5yr @ 550K + $1.5m SB] contract. His defensive abilities will be relied upon in Toronto, especially on the penealty kill. It is expected that Jim will be the 3rd line center. The team also signed second line center Steve Larmer to a respectable [5yr @ 1.9m + $4.5m SB] deal. Steve was excited about the cash-up-front aspect of this deal. With little developing at the C position in Toronto, both players felt they would retain a fair amount of ice-time.
GM Bradley and the St. Pats signed another member of the team today. Steve Thomas will extended his stay in Toronto as he signed a [5yr @ 3.0M + $6M SB NTC] extension. Thomas was willing to take a lower base salary due to the assurance of a No-Trade-Clause and a healthy signing bonus.

Pre-Signing Day 3 Signings:
After much debate, Whalers goalie Jeff Hackett has decided to play another 4 years in Hartford. The talented tender resigned for [4years @ 2.6M + 2M SB] the contract also has a NTC. The NTC was very important in this deal.
The Pitsburg Pirates, are allowing Gretzky and Trottier, have plenty of room up front to sign some key players. Mike Stapleton will be looking to move up to the third line with his [3yr @ 650K + 300K SB], left wing Jeff Daniels, hoping to get 4th line minutes also signed a [3yr @ 400k + 300K SB]. And Mikko Makela signed his name on a [4 yr @ 750K + 1M SB], he felt he was offered a fair amount for this break out season.
In other Pittsburg news, the Pirates also manged to sign a few impact players to extensions. Murray Craven has emerged as a top player in this league, having Lemeiux as a line-mate helps. His play has earned him a [4 yr @ 2.5M + 4M SB]. The extensions kept coming in Pits, as Steven Dushesne will now earn [4 yr @ 2.8M + 4.8M SB]

Pre Signing Day 4 Singings:
The Barons said goodbye to Brent Sutter but said Hello (again) to two key pieces of the team. Team points leader Paul Ranheim, who virtualy cam out of no where, signed on for another 4 seasons [4 yr @ 1M + 2M SB] The team also resigned Vladimir Malakhov to a cap friendly contract [4 yr @ 1.5M + 3M SB].
Montreal Maroons also made a splash. Signing Kirk Muller to a large base salary [5 yr @ 3.6M] Muller knows he will be relied upon heavily in Montreal. Shane Corson also signed for [5 yr @ 1.2M], more playing time is expected with the departure of a few players. It is expected that a few more from Montreal will sign shortly.
The Wanderers signed a hand full of depth players. These players no they could gets lots of ice-time with this team. Both on the pro roster or the farm team. The contracts are as follows: Sergio Momesso [2yr @ 825K] Jim Sandlak [3yr @ 550K] Dana Murzyn [3yr @ 650K] Robert Dirk [2yr @ 550K] Ryan Walter [3yr @ 400K] Jose Charbonneau [2yr @ 444.44K] Steve Finn [ 2yr @ 425k]
GM Remo Marsilii, and his Pirates managed to sign Gerald Diduck tonight, probably the last player to pre-sign with that organization. The contract is worth [3 yr @ 900K + 2.5M SB]

Ulf Samuelsson signs 4 years at 2.2M + 5M Signing Bonus + 2 year NTC (expires end of '97 seaon)
Ulf has enjoyed Minnesota and has performed well there. He didn't have much loyalty towards the organization but felt the big signing bonus up front and no trade clause went a long way towards gaining that loyalty. As #1 dman and a team leader he will enjoy the next 4 seasons with this club.

Pre-Signings Day 5 Signings:
Mighty Ducks decided to keep a few players for next season signing Thomas Steen [3yr @ 1.7M], he should have alot of success here. Deenseman Marty McSorley will get to bash a few heads for at least another [2yr @ 1.7M] and due to the lack of interest Darcy Wakaluk [2yr @ 860K] and Alexei Gusarov [3yr @ 810] have decide to stick around a little longer.
Pushy Tigers GM, the "other" Ed, saw two players ink contracts. Both players were treated well and received more than adequate offers. Al Iafrate signed [4yr @ 3.2375M + 4M SB]. The team also signed #1 center Craig Janny to a near mirror image deal [4yr @ 3.225M + 4M SB]. The money was and the great and the team is a competitor yearly.
Scouts GM Steve Smienk brought a go-get-em approach to his UFA's and the players all bought in. In fact he sent two offer to Brent Ashton. Brent opted for the longer-term, more money offer. The following payers are re-signed; Andy Moog [5yr @4.25M] Brent Ashton [5yr @ 725K] Stephane Richer [4yr @ 1.85M] Steve Leach [1yr @ 775K]
In what was probably the most important signing for the Tigers, Teppo Numinen secured his spot in the line-up with a annual salary that is cap friendly, the catch, a large signing bonus, mid-range term length and a NTC. The no-trade clause was very important. contract details [3yr @ 1.95M + 4M SB + NTC]

Pre-Signings Day 6 Signings:
Although the team cannot decide whether the are from the city of Oakland or the entire State of California, the Seals did decide to sign defensive specialist Igor Kravchuk to a [3yr 1.25M + 3M SB] a deal that solidifies the back end of the team. Personally I think Ed should realize his head is too big and should stick with the samller city rather than a whole State.

Pre Signing Day 7 Signings:
The Eagles will see the services of Craig MacTavish for another year. [1yr @ 1.4M + 600K SB] Craig felt he still has another year left in him and that he can still serve as a very important peice of the team.
Larry Murphy negotiated a deal with the Rockies that could possible be his last contract in the league. The [4yr @ 2.8M + 5M SB] was enough to keep him around. The Rockies also gave Rod Langway a deal [1yr @ 1.6M + NTC] if he decides the continue playing in this league and avoid retirement. He enjoyed his success here in Colorado and might stay another year.

Pre-Signing Day 8 Signings:
Senators GM, Chris Peters locked up versitile forward Tom Fitzgerald [2yr 950K + 500K SB] for a couple more years. Tom thinks he can play even better the next two years and earn himself an even bigger pay increase.
Maroons, Rick Young, took his time but finally figured out what Brian Bellows wanted, Brian signed a [5yr @ 2.3M + NTC] the no-trade-claus expires after the '97 season. Ice-time should not be an issue, one of the main reasons Brian re-signed in Montreal.

Pre Signing Day 9 Signings:
Montreal Maroons hit a home run with Patrick Roy, inking the future Hall of Famer to a [5yr @ 4.2M + 5M SB] Roy felt he was comparable to Hasek and Belfour and demanded a similar contract. The Maroons made a good choice signing him rather than letting this player go to FA.

Pre-Signing Day 10 (Final Day) Signings:
Americans signed two players at the deadline last night signing Scott Young [4yr @ 1.9M] signed the deal knowing it was giving the Americans a chance to sign other FA's in the off-season. He enjoyeds his time (and ice-time) here. The team also signed gritty Brent Fedyk [5yr @ 750K] he brings alot of energy and heart to this team. Two big names were not able to sign with the Americans however, but it does not mean that they won't re-sign in the off-season.
